Home

Welcome to my homepage. I am Romke van der Meulen, known online as Redge or Reginald. I'm a spiritual computer-nerd from the Netherlands. I work as a PHP programmer at iWink webdesign, and when I'm not too busy with other stuff I also occasionally study.

In this, my personal homepage, I hope to provide some information that will be useful to you, or that I deem important whether you like it or not ;)

Note: I'm in the middle of moving my website - some of the information displayed here may be outdated. I will do my best to update it as soon as I can.

Studies

I study Artificial Intelligence at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, now working on my second year. Fields particularly drawing my interest right now are cognitive ergonomics, speech and language among others. Outside of my studies I actively participate in our study association CoVer. I am a member of the foetsie (food), redaxie (magazine) committees. I work in the Opleidingscommissie (student participation committee) to improve our Bachelor and Master tracks, though we're doing very well already.

Career

After the standard dish-washing jobs once I had turned 15, I went in to telemarketing. My first job was with a company that sold energy efficiency consults for private homes at the same price you got in government funding, but it went under when the funding stopped. Later jobs included selling phone, lottery and newspaper subscriptions, and doing surveys on the delivery of a postal serive. After moving to Groningen for my studies, I got a job at the help desk at KPN for InternetPlusBellen, which was an ADSL connection with VoIP for your phone lines. I'm currently looking to get in to webdesign, and I've been working on a few projects that have been reasonably successful.

Projects

And by projects I mostly mean internet projects. I'm particularly interested in wiki's: I started out editing, went on to administrating, creating wiki's on other servers (like wikia and ended up creating customized (hacked) wiki's on my own server. Next to this, I also do some webdesigning for entire sites, using mostly PHP, SQL and Javascript. I admire wikimedia and their projects, but I haven't been a great part of any of them except wikinews back in their early days. I'm also working on some light text-based game called "Wizard's Quest", a revival of an earlier Javascript driven version but this time with more elegant coding.

Philosophy

I am a born-the-first-time self-proclaimed eclectithousiast, which is just my way of saying that I like the concept of eclecticism. I'm currently applying the concept to my new found religion by borrowing from whatever source I can find under a neo-pagan umbrella. My fancy is held by almost any culture ancient enough, but I find far-eastern philosophies particularly interesting, especially taoism. I apply a significant amount of my time and energy in philosophy, and I welcome any opportunity to discuss it with others. At the moment, I'm busy working out the cosmology of Ages.

Misc

And then there is so much more I'd like to talk about. And I do, at length. There's my experiences with Google products, Stumbling, watching anime, SF shows and other nerd-stuff. Too much too name, and more than enough to add one more heading. Now go explore!
